Proper Heiress delivered a jaw-dropping performance to win his fourth Category One prize of the year when landing the £20,000 Premier Greyhound Racing Eclipse on Monday night.
Mark Wallis’ September ’22 champion had already scooped the Winter Derby, Kent Plate, Sussex Cup and qualified for the final of the Irish Greyhound Derby prior to Nottingham Stadium’s showpiece race of the year.
He not only blitzed his rivals by winning by more than 15 lengths, but became the first greyhound in the Colwick Park venue’s 45-year history to break the 29 second barrier over its 500m trip – clocking 28.95 seconds.
Kennel mate Kilmore Dancer finished runner-up while Jimmy Fenwick’s Elusivenomore was third.
Local hope Hopesompaloompa, Droopys Poker and Pain Barrier were fourth, fifth and sixth respectively.
Mike Davis of the MWD Partnership – owners of Proper Heiress – was overjoyed with his greyhound’s performance after the race.
“It really is a pleasure to own a greyhound like Proper Heiress,” said Mike.
“It’s about representing greyhound racing, and that’s the sort of performance we all wanted to see.
“It could get even better as we’ve entered him in the Olympic at Hove which starts on Saturday. We set our standards high and this year we’ve exceeded everything, I’m delighted for the team who work so hard behind the scenes.
“We won this two years ago with Newinn Syd, to win it again is amazing and Proper Heiress has gone above and beyond.”
The 500m track record wasn’t the only to be broken on the night.
Kim Billingham-Hine’s Newinn Bachelor lowered the track’s 255m record – set by Skate On in August 2014 – when winning the £1,000 Arena Racing Company Dash Trophy in 14.83 seconds.
The evening’s other feature race – the £1,000 Arena Racing Company 480m Trophy Final – went to local runner Curraghmorechamp for trainer Peter Holland.
Other local winners on the night included No Better Feelin who sprung a surprise in the ARC Standard Trophy for Esther Driver. Jason Gray’s Loxleys Forest meanwhile took out the ARC Stayers Trophy.
Greyhound racing continues at Nottingham Stadium on Monday and Saturday evenings for the remainder of 2025. Tickets and hospitality packages are available online via www.nottingham-greyhounds.co.uk.
